Here is Clara at the end of a very fun and satisfying day. The grin is because she is drinking a milkshake--she only drinks water or an occasional herbal tea at home, so it was quite a treat. "Isn't that lucky?" is what she would say. She's been looking forward to this weekend for weeks, actually. First we went with her friends Eva and Natalie and their families to
Scotty's Playhouse, a 3,000 sq. ft. indoor play structure built in memoriam to a little boy who died of cancer and a few other babies who left too soon. The kids had a great time running, climbing and sliding all around, and I'm sure a few of the parents had a giggle or two watching Clara's 6-months-pregnant mama crawl around through three stories of hamster tubes with her. Next we had a little lunch with our friends back at Eva's house, and Clara got to sit at an exclusive kids' table, another treat.

Then we were off to the
Old Time Music Festival, where we got to see her beloved and talented music teacher Caroline play fiddle and guitar along with her husband on banjo, then danced our little hearts out in all sorts of square dance variations at the family dance. It was a crazy scene--very crowded, with what seemed to be half of the people there carting instruments around. There were, in fact, groups of people playing in every nook and cranny, including every bathroom!!! We went to three before we realized we just needed to ignore the co-ed groups of fiddlers and banjo players playing their hearts out by the sinks and push our way to a stall to pee. It was pretty incredible to see such a lively and inspired musical community. Clara made friends with a few fun little girls who took her under their wing, and then was thrilled to see her friend Vivian in time to dance circles and jump like crazy together to the last few songs. Lastly, the milkshake with dinner. Whew! And another exciting day tomorrow...stay tuned!
