Pouring activities were a calm and focused time for everyone. We had pinto beans to pour with a little pitcher, dried lentils and barley to spoon with childsized teaspoons, roasted pumpkin seeds to ladel and some orange-tinted water to move from cup to cup with an eye dropper.

Fun Toddler Activities
We did some fun and easy activities with the kids today that seemed to engage them well. Clara asked to repeat several of the tasks later in the day.

A 'mystery bag' of items to run floating and sinking experiments on was another favorite. We charted a total of items that floated in a bowl of water and items that sank by putting stickers on a bar graph chart. Clara especially loved this activity and returned to it without the charting after everyone left, happily testing and retesting each item for a very long time. We had some natural items like a pinecone, acorn, pumpkin seed and leaf, some small toys like a tiny doll, a plastic ball and small frog, and household items like string, a tongue depresser, a piece of sponge.
Outdoor activities included Halloween balloons to kick, throw, or pass through a hula hoop, a 2X4 to walk on like a balance beam (worked best when an adult put a foot on one end to steady it), and jumping in and out of the hoop.
The kids also enjoyed making (and particularly eating) soft pretzels. You can find a recipe that doesn't require boiling the dough here. They were tasty!
