After noticing a few months ago that she easily could hang up her smock and put away her boots in the water play area at OMSI, we added a set of low coat pegs for Clara to hang up her coat when she comes inside.
Amy built this low table so we could have an inviting area in the dining room in which to set out a few featured toys, puzzles or other items we wanted to draw her attention to (and to give her something to do if we wanted to sit for a very long time at a meal).
We found a mat that is easy to roll so she could set out a clean, comfortable floor space on which to play wherever she wanted.
Since she could walk Clara has loved helping to clean, especially after meals. For Christmas Santa put this dustpan and whiskbroom into her stocking; Grandma Karen added the child's broom to match mama's and we found some adorable hooks this winter at the coast to create a place she can come to in order to get her own supplies when needed.
A big point of frustration for me has been having to sandwich Clara between me and the sink in order to allow her to wash her hands. I've been eyeing this washing set from the Michael Olaf catalog for ages, but had no table the right size to put it on. Amy built this perfect little table from scrap wood she had in her shop. I especially love the towel rack. :)
Don't know if I'm happy with this one yet (it was hard to make it work in our tiny no-storage kitchen), but we wanted Clara to be able to get out her own bib, plate or bowl, cup and silverware when she needed them. We made as much room as we could on the lowest shelf of our butcher block and set her dining items out at a level where she could access them. She does okay, but it's crowded and I don't like how it looks--may need to change it to fewer items or find another spot.
So far she's loved the changes--it's so fun to watch her pride in being able to do things for herself.
