Today we went on a little photo tour with Clara of some of the fun and quirky things in our neighborhood. We created this collage to send to a fourth grade student in Las Vegas, a student of another teacher living without her twin girls and parenting a subsequent darling named Micah. Their class is doing travelogs and we needed to tell our little penpal Haley about our city and state. In addition to the obvious attractions like Mt. Hood, the bridges and the Rose Festival, we decided to tell her about some of the things we love. We love the corner a few blocks from us (in photo) that has a playhouse for kids, a free 24-hour tea station, cobb benches, a free bookshelf, shelves for putting out your extra summer vegetables or other free items, and a community message board. We love that little plastic horses are showing up all over the city (also in photo) attached to the metal rings in the sidewalk, reminding us that in our not too distant history, when our home was built, people tied their actual horses to them. We love that there were and maybe still are yellow bikes around the city that you can ride wherever you want if you find one, provided you leave it in public at the end for someone else to ride. We love the article in today's newspaper about how one mysterious artist started leaving 6 foot metal parrots attached to trees in Forest Park. What a weird and wonderful place.
